There have been mixed fortunes so far for both the boys and the girls' teams in the FAI Schools Soccer League so far. This season marks the first year that Scoil Mhuire have entered a team in the girls league and it has been a tough couple of games so far against very experience opposition.
The first match saw the girls lose to the much bigger Scoil Diarmada, Castledermot 7-0. Despite the scoreline there were some very impressive performances particularly from Abbey Grace, Abbie Fisher, Lily Clohessy and Eimear Lynch. There were a large number of girls making their soccer debut and they did themselves and the school proud. Things got marginally better in the second match but unfortunately the girls ended up the wrong side of a 6-0 scoreline against Naas Community National School. The scoreline was very unfair as we had a huge number of chances but the ball simply refused to cross their line. Again some very impressive performances from the girls - in particular from Ella Foster, Brooke O'Brien and Amy Dowling. The girls have one more match next week against Moone NS. The boys also lost their first match out against Scoil Diarmada 6-2. We actually took the lead early in the first half with a wonder strike from Michael Fisher. However, the larger school started to attack with more purpose and began to pull away. The score would have been worse only for a wonderful penalty save from Sean Dowling. Michael added his, and Scoil Mhuire's second in the 2nd half but despite a few good chances we couldn't draw closer. The boys played very well with some great performances from Sean Murphy, Noah Evans and Mark Tutty in particular. The second match was a different story with Scoil Mhuire dominating from start to finish against Naas CNS. It took a long time to get on the scoreboard with Aidan Grace hitting the crossbar twice in the early stages before an own goal from a Michael Fisher cross got us on our way. Another goal quickly followed from a long-range wonder strike from Mark Tutty. The goals continued in the second half with Emmet O'Connor, Michael Fisher and Jordan Cullen all getting on the scoreboard. There were also some wonderful performances in defence that kept them locked out from Conor Counihan and Fionn Steward-Byrne. This results gives us great confidence going into the final game before the knockout stages against Moone NS.

On Friday of last week the children from 1st to 6th class joined with young citizens from more than 150 countries in participating in the Global Climate Strike. This event was organised to give young people a platform to pressurise global leaders to do more to combat the existential threat that climate change represents.
The children from Scoil Mhuire, accompanied in solidarity by the staff, assembled in the yard and walked down along the river to the one of Ballymore's most beautiful spots - the wooden platform that overlooks the river. There, we were joined by parents and members of the local community to hear Fiona Breslin explain the issue of climate change and to listen to how we could make a difference. The children had lots of questions and suggestions for Fiona and responded really well to her talk. We'd like to thank all those who stood in solidarity with the children and to the children for taking part so enthusiastically. A very special thanks to Fiona for speaking to the children with such passion and enthusiasm. Yesterday at Ballymore Eustace GAA grounds, our u11 boys got their season off to a flying start. A hard fought victory was secured over Allen NS by 2-9 to 2-5.
Our boys made a great start to the game dominating possession from the opening minute and kicked the first two points of the game, both from Cameron. However, Allen NS struck back midway through the half scoring a goal with their first attack of the game to take the lead. James D restored our lead a few minutes later with a cracking goal. Seán and Fionn also got on the score sheet in the first half with Scoil Mhuire leading by two points at half time. The second half started brightly for Allen NS scoring a point early on but Scoil Mhuire soon took hold of the half with scores coming in from Aidan, Fionn and Sean. Cameron's point and goal seemed to put the game beyond Allen but they hit form mid-way through the half scoring a second goal and a couple of points themselves but Scoil Mhuire held on to claim victory in their first game of this season's campaign. It could have been quite different if it were not for some incredible saves from our goalie Aaron and some great fielding and blocks from our defenders. The game was played in a spirit of friendship and encouragement which was wonderful to see, with each player making a very valuable contribution. Squad: Aaron, Christian, Jordan, Jamie, Cein, Fionn, Sean, Daniel, James D, Aidan Gr, Cameron, Aidan Gi, James M, Charlie, Martin, Dylan Scoil Mhuire Parents Association, are looking forward to our Golf Classic which is being held
