Yesterday at Ballymore Eustace GAA grounds, our u11 boys got their season off to a flying start. A hard fought victory was secured over Allen NS by 2-9 to 2-5.
Our boys made a great start to the game dominating possession from the opening minute and kicked the first two points of the game, both from Cameron. However, Allen NS struck back midway through the half scoring a goal with their first attack of the game to take the lead. James D restored our lead a few minutes later with a cracking goal. Seán and Fionn also got on the score sheet in the first half with Scoil Mhuire leading by two points at half time.
The second half started brightly for Allen NS scoring a point early on but Scoil Mhuire soon took hold of the half with scores coming in from Aidan, Fionn and Sean. Cameron's point and goal seemed to put the game beyond Allen but they hit form mid-way through the half scoring a second goal and a couple of points themselves but Scoil Mhuire held on to claim victory in their first game of this season's campaign.
It could have been quite different if it were not for some incredible saves from our goalie Aaron and some great fielding and blocks from our defenders. The game was played in a spirit of friendship and encouragement which was wonderful to see, with each player making a very valuable contribution.
